Thrown by Nicky Appleby and engraved by Daisy Reay, this breathtaking vase shows off the artistic talent of both makers. Thrown and turned by Nicky, this glorious shouldered and wide throated form is deceptively light. Meticulous Sgraffito work by Daisy festoons each thematic layer. The top abounds with the surface plants often forgotten, hardy mushrooms, ferns and grasses pack the layer as they do the earth. Beneath that renderings if the inhabitants, creepy crawlies of all ilk. And depper still the evidence of long gone inhabitants.
With the inside and rim finished with our green glaze, thhe body is left to natural terracotta and slip, each detail inviting touch to it's rough earthy surface.
