By Nicky Appleby. One of his largest works to date this tall decorative vase showcases many if Nicky's favourite stylistic techniques. A balanced sectioned form featuring a mix of inward curving grooves, gentle cordons and a flourishing lip, all Sgraffito carved, with flames on the bottom reaching up to waves around the curves, then a section of chaos carving rising to more fluid carving. This was inspired by his thoughts on the firing processes that involve so much elemental change in pot and glaze alike. Water becoming steam, terracotta vitrivlfying in unknown microscopic pattern, and glaze melting and hardening. A uniquely beautiful work.
